ONDO 2016: JEGEDE UNFOLDS AGENDA FOR WOMEN

THE governorship candidate of Ahmed Makarfi's faction of Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), has assured women of opportunities of engagement and empowerment, if elected into office.
Jegede urged them to be ready and be bold to take up responsibilities.

He said no woman would be denied the opportunity of engagement because of the perception that she is a woman.

If anything, he said they would be encouraged to take up responsibilities, adding that there will be opportunities for them to meet.

Jegede gave the assurance while fielding questions from reporters in Akure yesterday.

He said women will be empowered under his government, adding that additional platform to the state's micro-credit scheme will be created to give them opportunities to own businesses and be gainfully engaged in commerce.

According to the candidate, because women need adequate protection, his government will "take a look at our protective laws for the womenfolk, especially considering what they go through in terms of inheritance, owing personal property and commerce".

Justifying his position to protect women, Jegede said: "They are mothers of all and they should be protected. They need help which we shall render and make them strong enough to be relevant at the home-front and also have a solid commerce base."

The candidate, at the weekend, called on aggrieved party members to sheath the sword and join in the drive to propel the party to victory in November polls.

Speaking at Igbekebo in the Southern Senatorial district, where the people in their large numbers defied a downpour to receive him at the community's town hall, Jegede promised to leverage on Ondo's human and natural resources to improve their socio-economic well-being.
