A SILENT STORY OF A CRITICAL PLAYER BEHIND THE EMERGENCE OF ADELEKE IN OSUN STATE: DR. AKINDELE ADEKUNLE

From Ilutitun, Okitipupa local government in Ondo State to the political landscape of Osun State, the story of Dr. Akindele Adekunle is one of political organization, public service, and strategic leadership.

Sometimes, the people who make history are not always the ones standing at the centre of the celebration. Some are the people who quietly build the foundation, organize the structure, mobilize the people, and create the conditions upon which victory becomes possible.

Dr. Akindele Adekunle, originally from Ilutitun, Okitipupa local government in Ondo State, is one name that has become associated with the political journey and development of a political administration of “IMOLE” in Osun State.

About four years ago, he was appointed as the Caretaker Chairman, at a critical period in the political process that eventually produced the victory of H.E Ademola Adeleke the Osun State Governor.

His role during that period, as the Caretaker Chairman was so significant as he was at the center of political organization and mobilisation that accompanied the electoral victory.

The result was significant: the political structure recorded victories across several legislative constituencies, including nine seats in the House of Representatives, three Senate seats, and seats in the State House of Assembly.

Those victories did not happen in isolation. Elections are won through people, structures, strategy, organization, communication and sustained grassroots engagement. Behind every major electoral victory are individuals whose contributions may not always receive the attention they deserve.

And that is where the story of Dr. Akindele Adekunle becomes particularly noteworthy.

THE FOUNDATION THAT REMAINED

On August 15, 2026, Osun State again witnessed another important electoral contest, with the incumbent Governor seeking another mandate.

According to the account provided, Dr. Adekunle once again played a significant role in the political process that contributed to the Governor’s victory.

Whether one looks at his earlier involvement or his participation in the latest electoral contest, one theme runs through the story: building and sustaining political structures.

The larger lesson is that political success is rarely created overnight. It is often the product of years of organization, relationships, experience and institutional understanding.

A SON OF ONDO WITH AN OSUN RECORD

Perhaps the most interesting dimension of Dr. Adekunle’s story is his origin.

He is not originally from Osun State.

He is a son of Ondo State, from Ilutitun, Okitipupa Local Government.

Yet, his political and public-service journey has taken him beyond the boundaries of his immediate community and into the political affairs of another state.

His experience in Osun therefore presents an interesting case study in how leadership experience, political organization and public-service exposure can travel beyond geographical boundaries.

For Ondo State, the story is worth examining—not as a promise of what one individual must do, but as an example of what experience gained elsewhere can potentially bring into conversations about the future of the state.

THE BIGGER STORY

The story of Dr. Akindele Adekunle is ultimately bigger than one election.

It is a story about experience, political organization, public service and the importance of building foundations before expecting results.

The victories celebrated today are often connected to structures built yesterday.

And sometimes, when history records the people who stood at the front of a victory, it is equally important to remember the people who helped build the foundation upon which that victory stood.

Dr. Akindele Adekunle’s journey—from Ilutitun, Okitipupa local government in Ondo State to a significant role in Osun’s political story—is one that deserves attention, documentation and objective assessment.

The question for the future is not simply where an individual has served before, but what lessons, experience and capacity can be drawn from that journey and brought into the service of the people.

The foundation matters. The experience matters. And the record deserves to be examined.

WHY ONDO STATE SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO EXPERIENCE

For Ondo State, this is where the story becomes even more important. Leadership is not only about occupying an office; it is about having the experience, capacity, discipline and understanding required to turn opportunities into results. A state like Ondo needs leaders who understand that development is built through people, institutions, planning, accountability and sustained engagement with communities.

Dr. Akindele Adekunle’s experience outside Ondo State should therefore be viewed as an asset worthy of public attention. His political journey in Osun has exposed him to political administration, grassroots mobilization, electoral organization, stakeholder management and the challenges of sustaining political structures. These experiences can provide useful lessons for the future of Ondo State.

Ondo State deserves leaders who can look beyond personal ambition and understand the wider responsibility of leadership. The people need leadership that can connect government with the grassroots, listen to communities, build trust, coordinate people and pursue results with consistency. They need individuals who understand that political structures are not merely instruments for winning elections, but platforms through which citizens can be represented.

This is why people with proven political and organizational experience should matter in the conversation about Ondo State’s future. Dr. Akindele’s story provides an opportunity for Ondo people to ask important questions: What has he learned? What capacity has he developed? What leadership lessons can he bring home? How can his experience be translated into better opportunities, stronger institutions and more responsive governance?

Dr. Akindele Adekunle should therefore not be judged merely by where he comes from or the positions he has occupied. His record, experience, relationships, organizational capacity and understanding of public service should be examined on their own merit.

If the experience gained in Osun can be brought back and deployed positively in Ondo State, then Ondo people have reason to pay attention to one of their own.

The time has come for Ondo State to look beyond names and examine competence, experience, character and ability. In that conversation, the story of Dr. Akindele Adekunle deserves a place.

For now I will stop here,

Signed

Ariyo Adeola.

Garba Shehu To Akeredolu: No State Authorised To Procure Automatic Weapons

The presidency says no state has been issued authorisation to procure automatic weapons for its security outfits.

In a statement on Tuesday, the presidency said the illegal possession of automatic weapons and AK-47 remains illegal in the country.

NO STATE HAS APPROVAL OR AUTHORIZATION FOR AUTOMATIC WEAPONS

The Presidency wishes to strongly assert that there is no state, not Katsina, not any other state in the federation, that has been authorized to procure automatic weapons for their security outfits.

Under this administration, the President has repeatedly made it clear that nobody is allowed to illegally carry AK-47 or any other automatic weapons and that they must surrender them.

Where they fail to do so, the law enforcement agencies have been given clear directives to deal with any such outlaws.

Under the existing regulations, only the Office of the National Security Adviser can issue such authorization, upon proper clearance by the President and Commander-in-Chief and as it is at this moment, no such approvals have been issued to any state government.

In the specific Katsina State often cited, the Governor, Aminu Bello Masari wrote to explain that the administration invited the Provost of the Civil Defence Training College in Katsina to train their Vigilantes for a five-day period “in the handling and operations of Pump Action Rifles,” emphasizing that “the Vigilantes were not trained to take over the responsibilities of the security agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria but to assist them.”

The Presidency appreciates the active involvement of states with security matters.

As they continue to expand their capabilities as well as their active collaboration with law enforcement agencies of the federation, the joint efforts continue to yield good results, thwarting attempts of terrorists to wreak havoc and destruction on communities. The President in particular has expressed happiness that in the last couple of years, security outfits mandated by state governments have been associated with several important initiatives, and reports have reached him of acts of utmost bravery and professionalism.

He thanks them for their alertness that is helping to defeat nefarious plots against targets at grassroots levels.

He, however, cautions against the politicization of security.

Government at the centre with a national mandate cannot afford to alienate Ondo State or any other state for that matter on the important issue of security and urges leaders at various levels to exercise restraint in their speech, even as we are in a political season.

Why Tinubu Will Lose To Osinbajo In APC Primaries

Leadership is not a popularity contest - Adams Oshomole

It is not arguable that Tinubu has a very large political structure. It is also not arguable that Tinubu can defeat Osinbajo in an Open Ballot system, but APC primaries are not going to be an open ballot system where people queue behind their candidates, rather it is going to be an Open-Secret Ballot system. In an open-ballot system, once I vote against you, you know, so I will be reluctant to vote another after assuring you or collecting your money. However, in an Open-Secret ballot, I can assure you that I will vote for you, collect your money yet vote my "heart".

Now on the day of the APC primaries, these are the facts that would be very clear:

Tinubu is too old to govern effectively: With the hindsight of Buhari's challenges, APC would rather go for a younger and much healthier candidate than an old and sick Tinubu. This is a clear advantage that Osinbajo would have. Most of the delegates would be easily swayed towards Osinbajo right inside the ballot cage, where they would thumb-print their ballot, fold it and come out openly to cast it in the ballot box. Mark you, it is going to be the same ballot box for all candidates, so you cannot know who was voted until the ballots are sorted and counted.

Tinubu's bad faith towards Ambode: The bad deed that Tinubu did to Ambode is still fresh in the minds of the governors, both single-term and second-term governors. it is on record that the governors overwhelmingly rejected the direct primaries simply because Tinubu and his men in NASS arranged to have them treated like Ambode. moreso, it was reported that the APC governor's forum led by Atiku Bagudu (who is still in charge by the way), went to Tinubu's residence in Abuja to beg and prostrate to the Jagaban to allow Ambode to complete his tenure, but baba shuns them. Now, he is running after the same Bagudu, even going to the Kebbi Lodge to beg then. They are sure to require their pound of flesh on behalf of Ambode.

Religious sentiments: Since 2015 Nigeria has been governed by a Muslim, Muhammadu Buhari. If another Muslim from the South takes over from Buhari in 2023, the Muslims would have had another 8 years, making a total of 16. Now when power returns to the North, obviously another Muslim would take over for another 8 years. In total, the Muslims would be president from 2015 - to 2039, a whopping 24 uninterrupted years. That is NOT FEASIBLE. Hence, rational as the delegates are, they would avoid such a trap that would easily hand power back to the PDP. The delegates would rather vote for Osinbajo than Tinubu.

Running mate wahahala: We all recall the challenges that Buhari faced in choosing a running mate in 2015. Buhari was under pressure to avoid the Muslim-Muslim ticket in 2015, even with over 10 million Northern votes in the kitty. Tells that with a Tinubu's candidacy, it would be tougher for APC. Firstly, Tinubu does not have the cult following that Buhari commanded in 2015. Secondly, the North would never accept a Northern Christian VP, this is an unwritten law. Adopting such would mean FAILURE in the North. Hence the only option that Tinubu would have is a Muslim-Muslim ticket, which would FAIL woefully at elections. Even APC NEC would advise against such a move. The obvious alternative would be Osinbajo.

Unaccounted Baggages: Accountability is the acceptance of responsibility for one's own actions. It implies a willingness to be transparent, allowing others to observe and evaluate one's performance. Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness. Measured on these two words, Osinbajo would beat Tinubu by a clear distance. Firstly, Tinubu has held Lagos to a stranglehold for the past 23 years. He has made sure that his son controls all the key revenue-generating sectors of the state, the numerous toll gates, etc. His daughter controls all the markets in Lagos, his son-in-law is in NASS, and his wife is a senator for life, he receives 10% tithes from Lagos State. These are baggages that Nigeria's state cannot accommodate. Even now, he has closed NURTW in Lagos and handed it over to his cronies. Is this the type of person that Nigeria wants to give power over the nation and national treasury and power?

Responsible delegates would avoid such a person because, when push goes to shove, Nigerians would be better off without such baggages. Hence the Osinbajo appeal would suffice.

Academic and foundational credence: Tinubu's state of origin, early education, age, and birth are all mysteries. Noone knows where he is from. Noone knows his father, no one knows where he got his first school leaving certificate nor his high school certificate nor diploma. All we hear is that he graduated from some University in the USA. There are those that say that his daughter is 61 years old while Tinubu is claiming 70 years old. That is a mystery too many to be overlooked. Hence Osinbajo would come as a sterling candidate to sell rather than a Tunubu with these baggages of unexplained mysteries.

Conclusion: Osinbajo would trounce Tinubu in APC primaries. However, APC may not form the next government, no matter who they field!

2023 Election: The Economic Difference TEA will bring

The best way to create jobs for the teeming youths, women and adults in Ondo Central senatorial district is to attract investors and create the good ambiance for businesses to thrive. Definitely beyond lawmaking, a legislator like Dr. Tola Emmanuel Awosika will use his influence to improve the economic status of the senatorial district through his wealth of experience in the private sector.

Dr. Tola Emmanuel Awosika is actually the best bet for us, as we have tested senators in recent time with little or no impact on improving the polity. It is important for us to get it right this time.

Dr. Tola Emmanuel Awosika has a good working relationship with industry players in the private and public sectors. These are people he will leverage on to invest massively in agriculture business, tech, recycling and sustainable entrepreneurship, thus creating over 500 jobs in his first 90 days in office.

In truism, Dr. Tola Emmanuel Awosika understands how the business cycle works, hence meeting with Aliko Dangote was not just a sheer courtesy visit but for even far greater purpose that will suit the Ondo Central people in the area of creation of wealth and job opportunities. Consequently, and for lack of better words, quality legislation, rural development, improved health care, human capacity development and just as important, jobs creation for the teeming populace are a few amongst the difference TEA will bring to the table.

Perhaps it won't be inappropriate if the people put their trust in him unflinchingly. This is about us, our children and the future of the present generation.

A support for TEA is a support for ECONOMIC GROWTH.

Abia women passes vote of confidence in Buhari, Ogah over development, urges Minister to join Gubernatorial race

By Elvis Ogbonnaya, Aba

A socio-cultural women groups, drawn from the seventeen Local government area of Abia State, under the auspieces of Abia Women For Good Governance (AWGG), and World Igbo Women for Equality (WIWE), Abia Chapter,  have passed a vote of confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr Uche Sampson Ogah for redefining governance in Nigeria  through policy formulations and implementations that have fostered unprecedented improvement in the economic and Infrastructural development in all facets of the country.

The organizations attested that the President Buhari have raised the bar youths, men and women empowerment and development through his administration's Social Investments Programmes in the country where millions of Nigerian citizenry have sufficiently been engaged to becoming  self-reliant, dependent and employers of labour.

The Abia women groups also attested that the current federal government led by the President has recorded strides in rewriting the Infrastructural deficits in the southeast geopolitical zone, and further pointed out the reconstruction of federal road in southeast and that of the roads connecting the southeast to northern and western, and as well as reconstruction and dredging of the second Niger which past successive administrations were unable to fix.

The groups made their positions known in a communique made available to newsmen in Aba, at the end of her enlarged meeting held at Aba Sport Club.

It was jointly signed by the chairpersons of AWGG and WIWE Abia chapter, Lady Catherine Nwarukwu and Mrs Comfort Ibeleme respectively.

We applaud him for the recent approval for reconstruction of Umuahia/Ikwuano-Ikot Ekpene road and the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt road during one of the meetings of federal Executive Council (FEC), presided by President Buhari.

"History will forever be kind to the President, one of the finest of leaders Nigeria has ever had since independence. The President has replicated leadership styles of the Late M. I Okpara of the blessed memory of Eastern Region that is worthy of emulation.

Continuing, the Abia women organizations, also expressed their immense and profound gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for the  worthy appointment of Dr Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, as Honorable Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, describing the Abia-born minister as "father of modern Abia and beckon of hope for generational Abians.

The groups also posited that the Minister has raised the bar in the present federal government's diversification of the nation's economy through natural and mineral resources which undoubtedly have boosted the revenue base used in developing other critical facets of the Nigeria's economy.

The Southeast women groups also commended  Uche Ogah for the political stability and harmony existing in Abia state, and as well as his immense support to the present government in  Abia state irrespective of political affiliations.

According to the groups, "Some had wished he used his proximity to the President as a Minister of the Federal Republic to invoke political crises in his home state or be at war with Gov. Ikpeazu for political expediency but Uche Ogah wouldn’t do any of such rather, as a true son of Abia, irrespective of political interest or affiliation, he has supported all requests and grants of Abia State at the Federal Executive Council. He has equally represented the Commander in-Chief in many functions organized by Abia State Government.

"He understands when it's time for governance and when it's appropriate for political gimmicks and campaign, therefore, after 2019 governorship election which he contested and came second, as a true democrat, he congratulated the winner, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu and wished him well".

CONCERNED KWARA SOUTH YOUTHS CALL ON DR. AUDU IDOWU MUSA TO CONTEST FOR KWARA STATE GOVERNORSHIP SEAT

If you do not take an interest in the affairs of your government, then you are doomed to live under the rule of fools, it is on this note that the Leadership of CONCERNED KWARA SOUTH YOUTHS has come together to Savage our dear state of Harmony from the cacarworm who  portray themselves as lover of masses rather they are enemy of the masses, it is time for politicking and the polity is so high such that to identify those cacarworm politicians take extra judgemental careful base on there outlook and sugar coated mouth.

We at our own purview has critically and holistically scrutinized all the possible Candidates in the upcoming kwara governorship race and we can boldly say without fear, favor or gain saying that DR. He took over the payment of one PTA Teacher in the secondary school and one of the two PTA teachers in Koro primary school for a period of one year 2009/2010. These are to mention but few of his philanthropist and Nation Building project across kwara state and Nigeria by extension and  this as shown his level of versatility in Leadership role and one will wonder where he inherit is Leadership prowess and acumen.

It is on this note that we want to emphatically and categorically say that after due consultation with concerned Kwara south Youths we  unanimously adopted and call on Dr. Audu Musa  as the preferred and right man for  Governorship seat of Kwara State for We also throw our support behind the man that is capable for the job.

We equally want to urge the entire kwara indigene and residence to support this agenda of Kwara south, has the best and capacity needed to reshape the state's Economy and place it on higher pedestal.

We are convinced that Dr. Audu Musa has the integrity, pedigree and visionary leadership acumen to drive the state to the next level of development in infrastructure, human capital, industrial, education, health, agriculture and other sectors, Our state needs an individual who is intellectually sound to pilot the affairs of the state in the next four years especially considering the present economic challenges of the country and the world at large.

Dr. Audu Musa is a bridge builder across regional, ethnic and religious lines that is capable of uniting kwara state. We have identified him as an exceptional manager of resources and a seasoned administrator. We are convinced that the state  needs him in the next dispensation.

“We have no doubt that he has the capacity and the political will to institute a new concept of governance and a new agenda of sustainable development, to provide effective leadership, capable of providing solutions to the numerous challenges confronting the state of kwara.

“We the concerned kwara south Youths have identified Dr. Audu Musa as a patriot in words, in action, and indeed, a leading light among the people. INDEPENDENCE DAY: FACE OF NIGERIA AT 61... (INSECURITY AND CORRUPTION)

At midnight, a few hours the presence of a vast assembly and more humble folk, British flag was hauled down and Nigerian flag raised to replace symbolic of the entire spirit coming to independence of this populous of African states that Governor-General, Sir James and the Prime Minister of the Federation, Alhaji Sir Tafawa Balewa, should have out together to stand side by salute the exchange of flags-- sovereignties. As they marched the Royal Stand, where was the central figure representative of Queen Elizabeth, the Prime Minister who waved his greetings to the although the Governor-General, once raised his hand knowledge the cheers.

Nigeria’s population is estimated at over 250 million, which means the country has skilled and unskilled labour in abundance. The population also makes it a fertile ground for global trade. Nigeria is also rich in mineral resources. It is sub-Saharan Africa’s largest, and the world’s 13th largest, producer and exporter of oil.

These endowments should have made Nigeria one of the key destinations for global investment. And with its wealth in petroleum and natural resources as well as its vast agricultural potential, Nigeria should have by now become Africa’s undisputed economic giant.

However, 61 years after independence, Nigeria, like a vehicle struggling to climb a hilly road, has yet to achieve its potential. Its large population has thus become a source of weakness, not strength.

A country that is seriously battling with the issue of insecurities which is seriously affecting the growth of the nation. For over a decade, Nigeria has been fraught with insecurity challenges, from Boko Haram and their ISWAP counterparts to Bandits and unknown gunmen, in the midst of all this, the statistics of unemployed youths and graduates in the nation has been rising to an alarming rate, the basic development infrastructures like electricity to enhance the industrialization of the nation in order to create employment opportunities has been lacking, thereby crippling other efforts to drive the economic resurgence of the 7th most populous nation in the world.

It’s a fact that the issue of insecurity in the nation has invincible social sponsors like poverty and unemployment; these contributes to frustration and anger that can result to one taking to armed robbery, kidnapping or pitching tent with agitators calling for dissolution of the nation under the guise of revolutionaries thereby creating more panic in the society.

Leading nations of the world are undergoing a process of modernization, encompassing changes such as industrialization, urbanization, and growing social complexity in the modernization perspective. Insecurity in Nigeria and Imo are social problems inherent in Nigeria, and as a social problem, can be seen as failures in modernization. For example, in today’s world societies that fail to industrialize will be poor and conflict ridden. On an optimistic note, this perspective suggests that these problems can be solved through government intervention to lead society on the road to modernization.

So many of today’s social problems are global in nature, we cannot hope to solve them by focusing on individual nations, ISWAP that are recently credited with killing of Shekau the Boko Haram leader, is an offshoot of a globally recognized terrorist network.

It has been observed by scholars and commentators that corruption is a major challenge to social, political, and economic development in any country. The consequences of corruption are unfavorable for the progress of any society.

Corruption in Nigeria is a constant phenomenon. In 2012, Nigeria was estimated to have lost over $400 billion to corruption since its independence. In 2018, the country ranked 144th in the 180 countries listed in Transparency International's Corruption Index (with Somalia, at 180th, being the most corrupt, and Denmark the least).  While many politicians own or have shares in these industries, tax revenues from the energy sector are diminished and the benefits of Nigeria's energy wealth is not evenly distributed throughout the country with Lagos State benefitting disproportionately. Oil and gas revenues therefore account for the vast majority of the federal budget and the salaries of government officials

Nigerian politicians find themselves in a strong position of power and wealth due to their connections with the oil and gas industries in Nigeria. These gas industries are under the control of the state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).

Vote rigging by political parties in elections is widespread and corruption is endemic within government. Business arrangements and family loyalties dominate governmental appointments paving the way for politicians, officials and their business associates who together make up the ruling elite to ensure that they all become wealthy through behind the scenes agreements and the awarding of profitable contracts to favoured supporters.

From massive contract fraud at the top, through petty bribery, money laundering schemes, embezzlement and seizing salaries from fake workers, it is estimated that corruption within the state apparatus costs the country billions of dollars every year.

With the continue rate of insecurities and corruption in the country now; is Nigeria face not bastardized among its peer in the African states and globe at large. We also need a working security architecture to fight the continuous insecurity in the nation.
