I am writing to you today to implore your esteemed organization to reconsider your decision regarding the warning strike and to urge for a more collaborative approach in addressing the current challenges facing our nation.
Firstly, I want to emphasize the empathetic nature of the administration led by Ahmed Bola Tinubu towards the plight of Nigerians. It has evidently shown its concern about the economic situation through its body language and has demonstrated its resolve to addressing these challenges we face as a nation.
It is important to recognize that the administration has been in power for only eight months, and it is unrealistic to expect all the country's challenges to be resolved within such a short timeframe. Additionally, it is essential to acknowledge that Tinubu inherited many of these challenges from the previous administration, which did not perform well.
Furthermore, while the Nigeria Labour Congress plays a crucial role in advocating for the rights of workers, it is important to remember that its concerns represent only a percentage of citizens. The economic downturn affects all citizens, from artisans to business owners, not just civil servants. Therefore, mounting more pressure on the government or meting out harsh criticisms will not be productive at this time.
Instead, I urge the Nigeria Labour Congress to exercise patience and grace with the administration. It is evident that the Tinubu-led government is concerned about the plight of the citizens and is ready to tackle the challenges we are currently facing. However, this requires support and solutions rather than additional pressure.
In addition, I believe that the government should focus on ensuring a competitive market environment.
Monopolistic markets contribute to the high cost of goods, and it is essential for Nigeria to embrace competition. Just like developed countries such as the USA, Nigeria should be open to importing food to alleviate the pressure on prices.
Moreover, it is crucial for the government to address factors putting pressure on the naira immediately. This includes taking measures to stabilize the currency and address any underlying issues affecting its value.
In conclusion, I implore the Nigeria Labour Congress to reconsider the warning strike and adopt a more collaborative approach with the Tinubu administration. By exercising patience and giving the government the grace to implement its plans, we can collectively work towards a better future for all Nigerians.
