UNIJOS ALUMNI PRESENTED RELIEF ITEMS TO UNIJOS STUDENTS

PRESENTATION OF RELIEF ITEMS TO UNIVERSITY OF JOS STUDENTS BY MEMBERS OF THE UNIJOS ALUMNI

Report of:

On the 4th of October, 2018, a section of the Unijos Alumni under the Auspices of "Liberators" visited all three (3) hostels of the prestigious institution to donate relief materials in a bid to cushion effect of the recent crises in this area.

The group convened by Ojamomi Fa'shola Atilade esq. (SUG Sales Secretary 2012/2013) and comprising of past Student Union leaders and ex-students was formed on the 1st of October 2018 in response to mayhem unleashed on students by hoodlums in that area which led to the death of Comr. Kums, a 300level student of the faculty of Law.

Having intimated participants on developments after testimony of the Hall Governor, Comr. Uzogara, the group swiftly moved to call the attention of security agencies, demand an explanation from the Authorities, called State Governments for swift intervention and evacuation as well as donate funds to assist students who have not been evacuated.

Consequently, several state governments including Ondo State, Nassarawa State, Cross River State, Benue State but to mention a few responded immediately with many vehicles to evacuate students from their state and even others who live within their geopolitical zone.

A four (4) man delegation was saddled with the responsibility of delivering these items, they were led by Barr. Adefunke accompanied by ASP Ilori Kehinde O. (Fmr interim SUG President), Comr. Lukman Jimoh Rahim( SUG Financial Secretary 2012/2013), Comr. Felix Attah (Immediate past NANS Vice President, Special Duties), Comr. AB Awesome M. (Fmr. Student Union leader and CEO of the popular YEABS magazine) and Armed Security.

The train started from Naraguta Hostel where the Governor in the company of Female Senators representing the female Hostel received us and accepted the gift in good faith promising that everyone will have a part in it.

Furthermore, we were at Abuja Hostel and of course received by the Hostel Governor who also appreciated the teams and extended his warm regards to the group.

Lastly, we were at village hostel which is the supposed theatre of war. We were also received by the Governor and a host of students including the handicapped who could not conceal their joy. We condoled with them over the loss of their own, Comr. Kums and advised them to desist from hearsay, rumours, unconfirmed news and violence, we also assured them that security has been beefed up around the University and no harm will come to them letting them know that their voices have been louder than only they can hear.

The Governor thanked our team on behalf of his students and prayed for Gods blessing on all who has participated in this benevolent gesture in cash and kind.

By and large, it was a successful outing that lasted for about four (4) hours with adequate security to avoid disruption of this exercise and we left students in those various hostels filled with smiles on their faces overwhelmed by this outrageous show of love.

As at the time of this report, the Lagos state Govt and other State Governors are equally planning on evacuation sequel to our distress call.
