The ancient city of Ugbe in Akoko area of Ondo state came alive as over one hundred and fifty genuine members drawn from the six local government in the area pledged their support to the Alliance of Social Democrats ASD in the bid to revive the nation from its numerous challenges.
The members drawn from different works of life such as artisans, civil servants including retirees and farmers made their intention known during a meeting with the leadership of the ASD in Ugbe Akoko.
Akoko is a region with the highest number of local governments in Ondo state, with rich history, culture, human and natural resources coupled with abundant economic advantages, sharing boundary with states such Ekiti and Kogi yet with one of the poorest road network in the country.
It is also a known fact that the region has suffered years of total blackout and neglect from the state and federal government.
Addressing the members who were bittered by neglect from relevant authorities for decades, the Deputy National Vice Chairman of ASD, Otunba Akin Akinbobola said the party has been monitoring the ugly developments, and while sympathising over the rate of poverty in the region said that Alliance of Social Democrats ASD has come to stay and will address the numerous challenges, which also applies to many states in the country.
Akinbobola stated further that since the inauguration of ASD in Ondo state earlier this month, the party has been moving across communities in the state, educating the people on the ideology, mission and vision of ASD, now with branches in all the eighteen local governments.
While frowning at the level of poverty, insecurity, joblessness among Nigerians, Akinbobola said ASD is a party designed to bring the government closer to the masses and enjoined them to evangelise the party to everyone.
On her part, the State Women leader of the party, Mrs Dame Victoria Osanyin particularly charged women to be alive to their responsibilities and make there impact felt in the Nigerian politics.
She condemned the syndrome of DIBO KO SEBE meaning vote and cook soup, a process often used by politicians to woo eligible voters and lure women to collect money in place of their vote as a shameful act that could mar the future of the nation.
Responding on behalf of the new members in Akoko, Mr Ajewole Yemisi while thanking the team for their love, promised to mobilise more people in the area for ASD.
Some of the delegates present at the meeting include the state coordinator of ASD, Barrister Adeola Kayode, King Adenuga, Pastor Adebayo Matthew, Mrs Arohunmolase Julianah among others.
