#OccupyNigeria: Nigerians react, give APC new name

apc
- Many Nigerians have been expressing their
frustration and anger over the recent removal
of fuel subsidy and increase in fuel price

– Some want to once again occupy Nigeria like
they did in 2012 when subsidy was removed

– Others are resisting the move to embark on
a protest
Following the removal of subsidy and an increase
in fuel price, the Nigerian Labour Congress vowed
to mobilize against the new pump price.
In 2012, when the administration of former
president, Goodluck Jonathan removed subsidy,

Nigerians took to the street in protest.
The protest against fuel subsidy removal shut
down the country for days and social media
buzzed with the Occupy Nigeria hashtag. The fuel
subsidy was later partially removed to appease
the angry protesters.>

Four years after, the #OccupyNigeria is trending
again as the federal government announced fuel
subsidy removal on Wednesday, May 11.
While some Nigerians are already eager to
protest the removal of subsidy and hike in fuel
price, others don’t think it’s the right thing to do.
Someone has given the All Progressives Congress
a new name.

Some Nigerians can’t wait to protest the removal
of subsidy.
Now I concur with Oga Bruce, this guys really
mean “Chains” and not “Change”. #FuelSubsidy

Empty heads are trying to justify this subsidy
removal. It cant work. Nigerians now know
better. And the truth must be told
#OccupyNigeria

Some Nigerians are saying there is a difference
between the 2012 occupy Nigeria and that of
2016 as people are more enlightened now.
#occupyNigeria.. C’mon guys, this is a different
case entirely #Fuelsubsidy.. in 2012,
cluelessness was at its peak nd that even made
it bad

#OccupyNigeria now is not going to be like the
one APC hijacked to descredit GEJ. Its about
reversal or reduction of the #FuelSubsidy hike

#OccupyNigeria will not work this time because
the same occupy guys are the same people
who were preaching change last yearchange

— THE MAN (@lexxysammy) May 12, 2016
Agitations at #OccupyNigeria 2012 were much
more about the fight against corruption than
anything else. The texts are still online.

— JJ. Omojuwa (@Omojuwa) May 11, 2016
Some recalled that politicians like Governor El-
Rufai, Babatunde Fashola, Dino Melaye and others
who were opposed to Jonathan fought against
subsidy removal in 2012. Nigerians are wondering
if they can still say the same thing they said in
2012.
Should I provide firewood? “@BashirAhmaad: I
will sacrifise my life over Fuel subsidy removal
#OccupyNigeria“

— Enobong Ukut (@slimtha6ft1) May 12, 2016
@Omojuwa and @GbengaGOLD sold
#OccupyNigeria in 2012. Now they are silent.
But do they matter ?NO ! We know their prices.
Cheap, very cheap

#OccupyNigeria stood for in 2012? 😂😳.

Some people actually have no problem with the
removal of fuel subsidy.
I think there’s no escaping subsidy removal.
Yes we made a mistake with #OccupyNigeria in
2012. Enof of d merry-go-round, let’s face
facts!

I am in support of Fuel Subsidy removal. I am
not in support of Hypocrisy. #OccupyNigeria
was fake.

I support fuel subsidy removal and that’s why I

Some are of the opinion that President
Muhammadu Buhari may order military men to
shoot anyone who protests.
Buhari is not GEJ. GEJ is a democrat, Buhari is
a tyrant. If you #OccupyNigeria, he will order
shoot at sight.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you

— DEJI for DNPS- PDP (@Gomeznsude) May

Do not try to #OccupyNigeria
If you do, someone in the military will drive
down to where you occupy. We don’t want
another Zaria massacre.
