MY TRUE REFLECTION ABOUT NIGERIA.- Fowobaje Oluwaseun

The first quote I heard when I got admitted to Futa was from Prof Alatise presently the Dean of the Great Faculty of Engineering and Engineering technology.

He said and I quote" A man that has never failed before is a mad man "

Presently, Nigeria is a failed country. That Nigeria has failed does not mean Nigeria cannot be successful.
We have to look back and check where Nigeria as a country made her mistake.

A lot of scholars have debated on whether Nigeria was actually ripe for independence or not. Can we say a 56- years old man is yet to know where he is going? " A fool at forty is indeed a fool forever".

One of our major problem is bad leadership. Since 1960, Nigeria has been governed by selfish leaders who have lavishly spent the country's resources without considerations.

Few people were opportuned to have Education then and those who were opportuned got the dividence not now that we have millions of graduates roaming the streets in search of jobs.

Nigeria has lost her focus because of poor leadership. Since 1960, there were no plans for Nigeria, how can we become a great country when our leaders do not have the foresight of how Nigeria should be?

The moment we discovered crude oil in Nigeria, our leaders due to the fact that they lacked vision started digging into oil and converting the money directly into their pockets, they never thought of the diversification of the economy.
We are blessed with both human and Natural resources. We have solid minerals that the country can invest on to boost her economy.Our lands are fertile for agriculture yet they neglected all that and concentrated on oil because they know it brings quick money.

We now struggle to have 2hours power supply when we can actually generate electricity from coal, dust, sun, gas, etc and yet we are sleeping in darkness!

President Muritala Muhammed was one of the great leaders that governed Nigeria with a vision.Within some months Nigerians began to experience better Living. What was the end of this visionary leader?for your information he didn't die, he was murdered.

Nigeria has everything it takes to be one of greatest country of the world in terms of technology, economic, standard of living etc but it has
been worse. Those who speak on our behalf are those whose stomachs are full already.

President Musa Yar'adua meant well for Nigerians, he was a visionary leader, he came with a precise vision "7point agenda ", his government was conducive, yet he couldn't fulfil his dreams for Nigeria.

At 56, we are still hoping, At 56 nothing seems good in Nigeria, it is only an average Nigerian that can explain the country's present conditio. We have been able to see different countries today that became great due to the fact that they have leaders who had good vision for their Country.

I believe, soonest Nigeria will rise again. "The truth is bitter!"
