BREAKINGS: Our signatures were forged says Ondo lawmakers

Two lawmakers in the Ondo State House of Assembly whose names were included in the impeachment noticed used for the purported impeachment of the Speaker and Deputy speaker of the state assembly last Friday, have said their signatures were forged.

Eighteen names and signatures were reportedly collated and published in the national dailies on Sunday, 11th November, 2018.

The lawmakers, Hon. Sunday Olajide representing Akure South Constituency 2 and Hon. Olusola Oluyede representing Ose constituency said they were not in the state when the purported impeachment was done.

Speaking with newsmen on Sunday, Hon. Olajide said he was neither informed nor briefed on the purported impeachment.

The chairman, House committee on Appropriation said he got wind of the impeachment story from a friend via telephone.

Olajide said it was criminal for anyone to forge his signature without his consent. He stressed that he was not part of any meeting and did not participate in the foiled impeachment.

Similarly, Hon. Oluyede said he was not part of the attempted impeachment, adding that he was shock to find his name and signature on the notice.

It was revealed that the purported impeachment did not satisfy the constitutional requirement of the House as signatures collated were not up to 18 which represents the two - third requirement for the impeachment of both Speaker and and Deputy speaker of the House.

According to the lawmakers "They claimed to have formed two-third as a condition to impeach the Speaker and the Deputy speaker,  whereas they were less in number as Hon. Sunday Olajide and Hon. Olusola Oluyede were not part of the attempted impeachment. "

It was further disclosed that the essential authorities of the House such as the "Original MACE or Gavel, standing order, book of oath and Proceedings were not honored and follow in the purported impeachment. "
