Former President of Adekunle Ajasin University Students' Union, Comrade Mayowa Adebiyi on Saturday declared his ambition to contest for the Akoko Southwest Contituency (II) seat, of the Ondo state House of Assembly, In the 2019 Election.
The former student leader and grassroot mobilizer made his aspiration public at the annual Ikun day celebration in Akoko, presided Over by His Royal Highness, Oba Adedoyin Olokunbola JP the Olukun of Ikun Akoko.
The celebration was massively participated as well wishers from the entire spread of Akoko region of Ondo State converged to support Ikun town, and the kabiyesi. The carnival-like atmosphere through-out the town also gave the opportunity for re-union among friends and relations in the town, resident in Nigeria and diaspora. Among the striking feature on the day of the celebration was the gathering of supporters and faithful’s of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC in support of Mr. Adebiyi Mayowa popularly called “Angel mayor”,
It will be recalled that Mr Adebiyi aspired for the ticket of the party in 2014, and after the primary election, he mobilized and gave support for the candidate elected by the party. Returning to contest for the same office in forthcoming party primaries and the February 2019 House of Assembly election, Adebiyi in his remarks and press statement to journalist reminded the community of his Time-honoured record in participating and contributing to the developed Ikun community, while also reiterating that he grew in the community and had his University education at Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko.
He added that, Upon graduating from the University, he could see that his people are still faced with a whole number of avoidable challenges, and that he provided supports for indigent students to advance their studies, and other supports for people in a number of other categories.
According to him, these made him to conclude that a political office of responsibility and authority will do more in reaching out to a larger number of the people in lifting their burdens. Hence, he chose the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) which later became the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the most serious gathering of progressives who can understand his passion for the people.
In the APC, Mayowa has continued to play visible and impactful roles in the development of the party locally, and contributing intellectually as required at the national level. He said he aspired four years ago for the position of the Member House of Assembly Akoko Southwest Constituency II, and he is here again with a deeper sense of commitment and political experience to use the same office and it's capacities to better the lot of our people.
Adebiyi said "it takes a deep and knowledgeable leader to organize his people in a way that wealth and opportunities in a community can be creatively managed to provide socially accessible wealth for everybody in the society, bringing comfort and wiping off anxieties, rather than everyone seeking personal wealth while the majority of the people wallow in abject poverty."
"There are a whole number of avoidable conditions which our people are faced with daily, and with adequate legislation, and equipping our people with the necessary positions of the laws made, and how they can use same to their advantage, they can break free of a whole number of economic and social repression. This fashion of creative leadership is what I have come to offer the people."
