Ondo State Police Command on Monday said it had arrested four persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen over the killing of one Omowole Orimisan on a farm situated at Hands Down area of Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command , Mr . Femi Joseph , the wife of the deceased , Abiodun , informed the police about the killing of her husband last Thursday.
It was gathered that the suspected killers attacked Orimisan while working on his farm as he reportedly challenged them for destroying his farm . He was alleged to have been killed during the argument with the herdsmen.
The incident was said to have led to a protest by the residents of the community who threatened to take laws into their own hands if something was not done urgently to the incessant killing of farmers in the area .
Joseph said men of the command swung into action after the matter was reported at the Ore Division leading to the arrest of the four suspects.
The police spokesman gave the names of the suspects as Ibrahim Yussuf , 19 , Soja, 20 , Halti, 20 and Musa 25 .
He said, “Another suspect who was identified as Dere is still at large and we are making all efforts to arrest , and I am sure very soon he would be arrested. ”
Reacting to the incident , the leader of Ikale residents in Ore , Chief Owoleye Obilana said the overbearing attitude of the herdsmen needed to be addressed and called on the government and the security agents to be proactive .
