Court Remands 8 Boys For Allegedly Belonging To Secret Cult

An Osun State Magistrate Court ii sitting in Ile-Ife has remanded Oladipupo Waheed, Ademola Adebayo, Olatunbosun Oyeyemi, Kolawole Makinde and four others to prison for allegedly belonging to secret cult.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. James Ade, told court that the accused persons committed the offences on July 12, 2017 at Igbo Tapa in Ile-Ife .

He explained that they were caught with the harmful weapons at exactly 2:am in the aforementioned area.

The prosecutor added that the offences contravened Sections 41, 166 (a) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Osun State 2003.

While profusely crying, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The defence counsel to the accused persons, Mr Boye Williams applied for the bail of his clients, urging the court to temper mercy with justice.

In his ruling, Magistrate Olamilekan Ijiyode lamented over the rate of cultists in the ancient city, saying that the cultists have turned to cankerworms that is eating deeply into the society.

He debunked the oral bail application of the  defence counsel, urging him to make a written bail application.

Ijiyode ordered the accused persons to be remanded at Ile-Ife prison.

He however adjourned the case till 31st August, 2017 for hearing.
