IFE STUDENTS SCOLD OBA OF LAGOS FOR HUMILATING OONI

By Sodiq Lawal

The National Ife Descendants Student Association (NIDSA) has scolded the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu for humiliating Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwunsi at a public function.

In a press statement released by the newly elect President of the association, Mr Agbogunleri Oluwaseun frowned at the action of the Oba Akiolu for embarrassing the Ooni when he walked over to greet the monarh with his hands but the King looked away and dismissed him with a wave of hand.

Oluwaseun said that the behavior of Oba Akinolu is very disappointing, disgraceful and unacceptable.

According to the press release, "As a King, the Oba of Lagos  should know such action is capable of causing animosity in Yoruba land where as Oba Ogunwusi is working round the clock to bring unity and oneness in Yoruba land "

"It is unfortunate that instead of joining Ooni in sowing seeds of unity and love, Oba Akinolu displayed archaic love for disunity, unnecessary rivalry and disdain for the exalted seat of Ooni"

"The stool of Ooni remains powerful and unchanged even till generations yet unborn irrespective of who becomes the Ooni of Ife. The gentility of a lion is not an act of cowardice. The fact that Ogunwusi preaches and embraces peace should not be taken for granted"

"Whatever the age of Ooni, he holds sway for the Yoruba nation and he should be respected for the stool as the representative and ambassador of Olodumare on earth."

He urged the lagos elites and other citizens to see their Oba's behavior to Ooni on the occasion as a monumental insult to their integrity.

"They must caution the monarch to be more civil in his interactions with other Kings  in the future." He said

However, he urged the Lagos Chiefs  to be up to the task of calling Akinolu to order.
