How to tackle unemployment — NDE

NATIONAL Directorate of Employment, NDE, has
said for unemployment to be effectively tackled,
innovative programmes and schemes must be
regularly injected into the economy through
skills that are demand-driven specific, relevant
and community-based.

According to NDE, this will reduce poverty by
stimulating income generation and wealth
creation.

Co-coordinator Lagos NDE, Mr. Adebowale
Ologbenla, spoke at the graduation of 50
constituents of Lagos Central senatorial district,
trained in photography, video recording,
catering, small chops, mobile phones repair,
hairdressing, barbing and smoked fish business
in a community-based training programme.

Ologbenla urged other stakeholders to emulate
Senator Oluremi Tinubu (APC, Lagos Central),
who collaborated with NDE on the skill
acquisition scheme.

Earlier, Senator Tinubu said a virile human
resource development scheme was essential to
developing the full economic value in a society,
making skills acquisition integral to a nation’s
growth.

According to Tinubu, “the Federal Government is
passionate about youth empowerment. But the
task is for everyone. That is why government
should fund and empower NDE so that more of
this kind of collaboration will be executed for full
economic growth.”

Also speaking at the event, the wife of Lagos
State Governor, Mrs Bolanle Ambode, who was
represented by Mrs Lola Akande, Commissioner
for Women Affairs, said: “Economic
empowerment is the backbone of any human
being. A life without a means of livelihood is a
life of disadvantage. A job skill is what gives you
something to plan with.”
