Medical Lab Scientists At Ondo FMC, Celebrate Int’l Biomedical Laboratory Science Day In Grand Style




Members of Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Owo, joined their colleagues globally to commemorate International Biomedical Laboratory Science Day 2022 with a four (4) days event which took place between the 11th and 14th of April 2022.


The day is being celebrated throughout the world on the 15th of April every year but due to 15th April was declared a public holiday for Easter celebration, the grand finale was done at FMC, Owo on the 14th April.


Members of AMLSN at FMC commenced their activities on the 11th of April 2022 with a Press conference and Community Health Awareness Campaign at Oba’s Palace and Emure Ile Community in Owo local government area of Ondo state.


Day 2 activities commenced on the 12th of April,2022 with free medical screening for Diabetes, Hepatitis, Renal problem, Hypertension, Human Immunodeficiency Virus, Tuberculosis and Anemia at Our Saviour’s Anglican primary school, Emure Ile.


Day 3 which was on the 13th of April, 2022 was a day for Intra-professional and Inter-professional Debate and Competitions and sporting activities


The final day, Thursday,14th of April, 2022 was meant for the grand finale where the theme of the celebration; “TESTING TIMES – BIOMEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST’S ROLE IN THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC”, was brilliantly discussed by an Erudite Professor, Prof Abdulwasiu Hassan and Four(4) other lectures were also made presentation.


Speaking at the event, the Chief Medical Director of FMC, Dr Liasu Ahmed appreciated the Medical Laboratory Scientists for their roles in Medical diagnosis.


Ahmed emphasized the need to advance the course of the profession for effective and efficient Medical Laboratory Services.


Also speaking at the event, the Chapter Chairman of AMLSN, FMC, Owo, who is a Deputy Director of Medical Laboratory Services, Mrs Olaniyan Julianah congratulated all Medical Laboratory Scientists across the globe and reiterated the special roles being played by them as the oracle of medicine.


Olaniyan encouraged her colleagues to always consider empathy in the interest of humanity when carrying out health services.


The Chairman, Organizing Committee of the 4days activities, who is also the State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals, Prince Adedire Adeyinka lauded the swift and aggressive responses of both the federal and different state governments in combating the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic.


Adedire specially commended health workers, particularly, Medical Laboratory Scientists for the robust and patriotic professional responses targeted at addressing both health and economic challenges posed by the virus.


The Chairman advised the government to continue to provide engaging initiatives that will increase the capacity and capabilities of health workers and prepare them for Natural disasters and unexpected public health emergencies.


Adedire who emphasized the need to motivate health workers by paying the newly approved Health workers Hazard Allowances and April/May withheld salaries of Federal health workers, pleaded with state governments owing backlog of salaries to endeavor to pay workers, particularly, health workers in the interest of essential services that they render.


Members of the Association also celebrated the day with delight before embarking on Easter holidays.
