Political leaders in Ondo state on Thursday vowed to embark on a massive mobilization and sensitization of electorates to discourage money politics and vote buying in the up coming 2020 governorship election and subsequent elections in the state.
The politicians and opinion leaders who gathered from different political divides in the state promised to help enforce tolerance and cooperation among all the political parties.
The political stakeholders spoke with Nigeria cable news online under the auspices of “Ondo State Coalition 2020” in a communique read by a former speaker of the state house of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Jumoke Akindele, After their inaugural meeting held in Akure, the state capital.
Reading the communique, Akindele said:
“Coalition 2020 is a collaboration of groups, associations, persons, political leaders and various political parties that cut across the length and breadth of Ondo state.”
“Year 2020, being an election year in our dear state, Ondo, it has become imperative that such a coalition be put in place to ensure that the entire state is properly guided as to the nature of government to be emplaced.”
“It is our desire to ensure that the incoming administration is such that is mindful of the interest of all classes of people in Ondo state and ensure that only a credible, people-oriented candidate emerges as the next governor of Ondo state regardless of the political platform.”
“We will endeavor to give every aspirant to the lofty number one position in the state equal opportunity for assessment to determine their competence, character and capability to provide leadership to the entire state regardless of political affiliation and social standing.”
“We shall as well give opportunity to the incumbent to submit himself, his government and achievements to proper and full appraisal by the coalition.”
The group lamented the failure of successive governments in the state to deliver on key indices of developmental strides particularly in Education, infrastructure, health, Agriculture, Industrialization, employment and poverty alleviation.
The group resolved to ensure good governance is not reduced to a slogan in the state but an idea and ideal that must find actual expression.
One the latest trending regional security concept initiated by Governors of states in southwest Nigeria code-named Amotekun.
“We identify with the Amotekun Security Network and commend the Southwest Governors on the laudable initiave.” Akindele concluded.
Other notable leaders at the meeting include Rt. Hon. Malachi Coker, Hon. Bamiduro Dada, Hon. Solagbade Amodeni, Hon. Akinbobola, Hon. Otetubi, Hon. Kura, and chairmen chairmen of 17 political parties among others.
