Transfer news: Mourinho ups bid for Real Madrid’s Asensio, Pique backs Utimi’s decision on EPL

Manchester United have reportedly tabled a huge offer to sign Real Madrid attacking midfielder, Marco Asensio this month.

According to Spanish outlet, Don Balon, United boss, Jose Mourinho has stepped up the hunt and placed an offer for the Spain International.

Asensio has struggled for game time at the Bernabeu and has mainly been on the bench this season.

The offer has been described as “massive” and the report suggests he is giving serious consideration.

Meanwhile, Barcelona central defender, Gerard Pique has insisted that team-mate, Samuel Umtiti will be at the club for many years to come.

Pique believes Umtiti will stay put at the Camp Nou despite reports linking the French International with a move to Manchester United and City.

He said: “I’m not worried about what clubs might or might not do,” Pique told Spanish reporters.

“Umtiti is a great player and we expect him to stay at Barca for many more years and for him to enjoy his football with us.

“To an extent, the buyout clause is made high so that you can’t buy the player. As time goes by, that fee doesn’t seem so high at all, but the player still has to want to leave.

“We’re very happy with Umtiti and I’m sure he’s going to stay here for a very long time.”
