A man whose name has not been made public was said to have surrendered himself on Wednesday as the driver of the car that killed an Ibadan based newscaster, Olufemi Oluwajobi on Sunday, 31st December, 2017.
A source told DAILY POST that the man on Wednesday turned himself to the Fresh FM Ibadan where Oluwajobi until his death, was a newscaster.
It was learnt that in his discussion with the owner of Fresh FM, Mr. Yinka Ayefele, the driver said that he was coming from his shop in Ogunpa area of Ibadan and that he was looking for fuel in the area when the accident happened.
“I was coming when I saw some people beside the road on that night. The brake failed and I lost control of the vehicle. I hit an electric pole in the process and the car was about to somersault when I hit the man. I did not know if he died. I managed to escape from the scene and took a commercial motorcycle to turn myself in.”
However, Public Relations Officer (PRO), of Oyo State Police Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said that the driver (name withheld) initially lied that he gave the car to an electrician who hit the deceased with it.
He said “A man was arrested in connection with the accident that killed Oluwajobi. He actually lied that he was not the driver after presenting himself at the police station.
“He said he gave the car to an electrician who killed the deceased on the night of December 31, 2017.
“But after interrogation, he confessed that he was actually the driver of the car”.
