The Lagos State Task Force, yesterday, rescued a man from being lynched over the abduction of a six-month-old baby, Darasimi Akinyemi, in Oshodi area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred at 55, Oshodi Road, during an overnight patrol of the Task Force.
The suspect, identified as Mr. Idama Endurance, 31, from Obiaruku, Delta State, is a neighbour of the baby’s mother.
Chairman of the Task Force, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, who disclosed this in a statement, said preliminary investigations conducted by the Agency revealed that the suspect illegally accessed his neighbour’s room at mid-night, while the family was asleep.

The Chairman stated that the suspect will be transferred to Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, for further investigations with the directives of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni.

The mother of the baby, Mrs. Banke Akinyemi, 29, said the baby’s cry woke her up and immediately the suspect dumped her before taking to his heels, but was apprehended by residents, who almost lynched him before the intervention of the Task Force.
Mrs Akinyemi, who hails from Ejigbo in Osun State, stated that her mother and co-tenants assisted in apprehending the suspect.
According to her, “if not for the intervention of the operatives of the Lagos State Task Force, who were on a mid-night patrol, the man would have been lynched by a mob.”
Egbeyemi said Endurance has debunked the allegation, saying he got drunk at a birthday function after which he jumped through the fence on reaching home as he could not locate the gate key.
His words: “Yes, it was after I scaled over the gate that I entered into their room, sourcing for a key to the gate as their door was not locked.
“Since I moved into the compound a year ago, I have had my eyes on the baby’s mother. But when our landlady told me she was two months pregnant, I stayed off her.”
Endurance, who claimed to be trading on “linen clothing” materials at Kairo Market, Oshodi, however confirmed that other neighbours within the compound and passers-by had started beating him, calling him ‘kidnapper’ before the arrival of the operatives of the Lagos State Task Force.
The landlady, Mrs. Johnson Esther, said she was surprised when the matter was reported to her.
She claimed the activities of the suspect were suspicious as he comes home late and usually jumped the gate to enter the compound most times.
