NANS, NAPS GIVE RECTOR OF FEDPOFFA 7TH OF JULY TO FIX SUG ELECTION

BEING A TEXT OF JOINT PRESS STATEMENT ISSUED BY THE LEADERSHIP OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS (NANS) AND NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF POLYTECHNICS STUDENTS (NAPS)

TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC

NANS AND NAPS ISSUES ULTIMATUM TO MANAGEMENT OF THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OFFA TO FIX STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.

Reports reaching the Supreme Organ of The National Association of Nigeria Students'(NANS) and National Association of Polytechnics (NAPS) evidently shows Management of the Federal Polytechnic Offa have resolved to circumvent the activities of students  in her shoddy activities by depriving them of their unfettered right  to constitute the Students Representative Council, which is a brazen denial of their right to social justice.

The activities of the Management also show that the Rector had purportedly used the Dean, Directorate of Students' to harass, manipulate, threaten and deride calibre of some students' leaders. This is a statistical aberration and a gross fundamental negation of the principle of administrative probity.

NANS and NAPS in their joint extraordinary meeting,had resolved to liaise with the all major body of the students organizations and stakeholders call for the intervention of the Presidency of the Federal Republic, through the Minister of Education to intervene in the alleged wanton power welding and  Executive Rascality at the institution. We believe series of double-standards might have necessitated gargantuan allegations on Management monumental  misconduct, The following are our stand:

1. The advice given by the security agencies about the Students' Union and their activities can be addressed by ensuring all parties involved sign an agreement of peace before,  during and after the elections which will make those involved to do all possible to promote peace. This approach worked during previous election when it was like Iraq War but  we veiled for peace because our studentship is at stake if there is any pandemonium. We, the apex body of students organisation in Nigeria  even promised to give all necessary protection and security before,  during and after the elections.

2. The same approached as suggested above can solve any security threat and also ensure a smooth election and transition.

3. Let  the SRC be constituted as soon as possible or if time is constrain,  let the same procedure used to select ICEC members s be fast tracked and let the election committee be inaugurated  because putting the SRC and SUG election on 'hold til further notice' is indirectly proscribing the Students' Union Government because without the inauguration of the SRC,  there can not be ICEC and if there is no ICEC,  then no SUG elections. the question that need answer is who is fooling who?

4. The management should hands off from any student affairs matters as it's clear that their interest is the reason for all this pandemonium because they (school management) claimed the incumbent Students' Union Executives agreed to the option of no election till further notice; but sincerely they are left with no other option and moreover,  the student in general must be duly represented. Who knows what transpired at the said meeting where the SUEC agreed to the postponement of the elections.

Once again,  let it be known to all that we are not in any way against any policy of the management as far its not against humanity or sheer case of oppression of any kind because a city where dog eats a lion is practically unsafe for living. Also, as it's already known that NANS have justice and equity as our watchword and so we won't be silent in anyway when students from the institution where this organization started from is facing inhumane treatment from those who are been paid their salaries and allowances through the hard earned tax of our parents and self.

Understandably, the uhuru and  privilege the Management enjoys at the moment is that,the Public Relations Officer of NANS is an Alumnus of the College who also heavily frowns at this development and collectively we enjoin the Management of the Federal Polytechnic to expediently fix  on the subject matter and on the urgency of the moment before it is too late based on the dictum that a stitch in time, saves nine. We shall continue to monitor the situational standpoint and its paraphernalia.

However,both NANS and NAPS resolved and expected Management of the institution fixed Students Union Government of the Federal Polytechnic Offa by ossifying the Legislative Arms & Independent College Electoral Commission forthwith on or before 7th of July,2017.

We upheld strongly that the Management of the institution will not like mass actions at the institution by fixing Students' Union Government at Federal Polytechnic Offa except she has the capacity to hosting the supreme organ of NANS,  NAPS and other student body within the shores of Nigeria and neighboring countries we have affiliations with.
