Oyo rule Jide Bademosi U-19 cricket

Hosts Oyo State on Sunday defeated Ogun State by 78 runs in a nail - biting final to win the maiden Jide Bademosi U- 19 Cricket Tournament at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan .

Ogun made the champions work to earn the the top prize in the match that attracted many cricket enthusiasts from Lagos, Ogun , Osun and Ekiti states .

The runners- up won the toss but elected to field first . Oyo scored an impressive 191 for the loss of five in 40 overs .

Oyo’s Olaleye Elijah , who scored 93 runs not out , was brilliant on the oval. He was effectively assisted by Vincent Adewoye 28 and Akachukwu Chima 26 .

In the second innings , Ogun , who exhibited a lot of discipline in their fielding, showed initial stability in their batting but soon began to lose wickets in quick succession . They lost four wickets as early as the 12 th over .

The introduction of captain Ajekwu Daniel stabilised play for them. In the 22 nd over , Ogun batsmen recorded 64 for four.

They proved to be even a tougher nuts for Oyo bowlers as they attacked every ball thrown at them.
At the end Ogun scored 113 all out giving Oyo a healthy victory .
