ABAYOMI TO TINUBU: APC WILL WIN ONDO WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT

Again, constitutional lawyer and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Tunji Abayomi Tuesday threw a verbal jab at the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the call for the Chairman of the party, Chief John Oyegun to resign from office over the governorship primary in Ondo State.

Abayomi, who had earlier exchanged verbal fisticuffs with Tinubu over the endorsement given to Dr Olusegun Abraham by the former Governor of Lagos State, said Tinubu was wrong to have asked the National Chairman to resign because the National Working Committee of the party upheld the result of the primary of the party held in the State on September 3, 2016 in Akure.

A former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) won the governorship primary defeating Dr. Abraham, who was the preferred candidate of Senator Tinubu, and 22 other governorship aspirants of the party.

Speaking with reporters, Abayomi, who also lost in the primary, alleged that the Electoral Appeal Committee caused confusion in the party over the issue of the primary.

The controversial lawyer said the committee recommended the conduct of a new governorship primary when it was impossible for the party to organise a fresh election after the deadline of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had lapsed.

His words: "For calling for the resignation of the chairman, I think Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is very wrong because he is not a member of the National Working Committed and he cannot speak for the NWC. He did not participate in the entire process and whatever information he has must have been given to him by his agents.

"We heard it that there was no vote casting among the NWC members before they took the decision over the matter contrary to his allegation in his letter to the chairman. Also the position of the party was that there was no vote casting, I expect Asiwaju as a leader of the party to give credit to the vital opinions on the primary.

"I am personally disappointed that Asiwaju would be determined in his action, that a primary that he promised would be free from undue influence, should be voided by all means, I think he was wrong."
