As the NANS convention approaches, we have seen different aspirants struggling to sell themselves to Nigerian students on who the cap fits best,many will come as Nigerian students but over the night of emergence, they return back to their former status, it is time we call a spade a spade and not just a farming instrument.
It is highly imperative that many factors are taken into cognizance to guide us in choosing the next set of leaders of our dear apex students body,we are at a stage whereby we must grab the bull by the horn in our quest to place NANS on a path to glory, the true identity of NANS as a vibrant and radical union must be restored and revealed.
Who are the Real Students ?.
At this crucial juncture, progressive minded students will agree with me that there is a dire need to return NANS back to where it belongs i.e our campuses, a situation whereby non students attach themselves to an institution for the sole aim of contesting is not only saddening but extremely ridiculous, self acclaimed students who will desert the students whom they are meant to serve after emergence,this caucus are only interested in retaining the status quo that is already long overdue to be overturned, aspirants who truly have the genuine interest of Nigerian students at heart should be bold enough to state their institution, course of study and matriculation number.
It is now the norm where an aspirant who is contesting via an institution's platform is hardly known by the Students Union president of the said campus,we must take note of "emergency students " who returned back from their graduate status to student status for the sole aim of contesting and further mortgaging the future of Nigerian students, the real students should get ready to take over the structure of NANS, progressive minded students and stakeholders must be at red alert to stop this political jobbers and career businessmen who see NANS as a means to an end.
Pressing questions are to be asked;
How many aspirants can boldly state their institution, course of study and matriculation number?
How many aspirants are known by other students in their department?
How many aspirants can be boldly vouched for by the Students Union President of their institution?
If truly, any aspirant claims to be genuinely interested in the affairs of the Nigerian students constituency, then the following questions should not be a problem to be answered,only a true student will know where the shoe pinches, enough of impersonation all in the name of holding position,the malignant tumour causing the systematic dysfunction in NANS is ready to be operated on and removed by courageous ideological surgeons.
He who comes to equity must come with clean hands.
