Labour spoils for war with Okorocha

The national leadership of the Nigeria
Civil Service Union, NCSU, and the Imo State
branch of Association of Senior Civil Servants,
are spoiling for war with the Governor Rochas
Okorocha-led Imo State government over the
compulsory leave slammed on the six
management staff of the State Board of Internal
Revenue, BIR, including the establishment’s
Chairman, Mr. E. I. Onunaku.

Similarly, labour is irked that the state Head of
Service has equally approved the immediate
redeployment of 132 officers and staff, whose
grade levels range from 12 to 14, to other
ministries.
Labour is of the opinion that “the state
government’s action grossly violated both public
service rules and labour laws.”

The position of the labour union was contained in
a letter addressed to the Acting BIR Chairman,
by the Assistant General Secretary of NCSU, Mr.
Luke Dahang.

“We maintain our earlier opposition to
deliberately disregard the extant laws and
regulations guiding BIR operations.

"We must also state in clear terms that any
attempt by individuals or group of persons, to
forcefully eject BIR staff, who are members of
our union, will be met with stiff resistance,”
Dahang stated.

Continuing, the union warned that should the
resistance result to unpleasant situation in the
workplace, the state government would be held
responsible.

While expressing worry that government had
issued three circulars on the same subject
matter, Dahang also said that this has created
serious doubts in the minds of workers.
