Teenage pregnancy refers to a pregnancy that occurs in a girl child between the age of 13-19 years a report by "save the child"found out that annually 13million children are born to women under 20years, worldwide more than 92% in developing countries.Teenage pregnancy has adverse effect on maternal n foetal health,A very young expectant mother are physically and physiologically immature for reproduction.
In Nigeria,according to the health denographic survey 2009,47% of women aged 20-24 were married before 15 years,87% married before 18years.
CAUSES OF TEENAGE PREGNANCIES
*Adolescent sexual behaviour
*peer group influence
*custom and tradition
*lack of adequate knowledge about sex
*social economic factor
EFFECT OF TEENAGE PREGNANCY
*Risk of low birth weight.
*Premature labour.
*Anaemia
*Preeclampsia
*Higher rate of
poverty
*Depression
*Stress
*Isolation
Young mothers are at high risk of having low education and therefore reaching professional deadline these effect increases the rate of unemployment.
PREVENTION OF TEENAGE PREGNANCY.
*health education on abstinence
*parents should explain and enforces norms and value which are culturally acceptable in the society"virginity"
*parents should know the peer group of their wards to prevent peer group influence.
*The youths should be encouraged to join useful clubs e.g debating society,red cross,girls guide.
*parents,teachers,guardian,religious leaders and elders in the community should be educated on adolescence and responsibilities in nurturing them
Note:The parents,teachers,relegious leaders should help to health educate the females children with experiences and they should remember the great philosopher that says "WHEN YOU EDUCATE A MAN YOU EDUCATE AN INDIVIDUAL BUT WHEN YOU EDUCATE A WOMAN YOU EDUCATE THE NATION"Say no to teenage pregnancy so that they will build our nation Nigeria effectively and efficiently.
