Army appoints Yahaya 4th Brigade commander

The authorities of the Nigerian Army have announced
the appointment of Brigadier-General Faruk Yahaya
as the 35th Commander of the 4th Brigade
Command, Benin, Edo State.
He replaces Brig. Gen. Olajide Laleye, who has been
redeployed to the Headquarters Infantry Corps and
Centre Jaji, Kaduna, as Chief of Staff.
Laleye was the Director of Army Public Relations
until January, 2015, when he was deployed to the
command.
According a statement signed by the spokesperson
for the 4th Brigade Command, Captain Jonah
Unuakhalu, and made available to The PUNCH, Brig.
Gen. Yahaya’s posting followed the general
redeployment of officers to fill the gaps created by
the exit of some senior officers who had applied for
voluntary retirement from service.
It said the new commander assumed his new office
after handing and taking over procedures at the 4th
Brigade headquarters in Benin.
According to the statement, Brig. Gen. Yahaya is an
experienced infantry officer, who was, until his
appointment, the Principal, General Staff Officer at
the Ministry of Defence.
It read, “He (Yahaya) is a seasoned officer, who rose
to the rank of Brigadier-General in the Nigerian
Army after completing all statutory courses and
examinations. He participated in several operations
in and outside the country and served in various units
and formations in the Nigerian Army.”
