Benue varsity matriculates 6,400, warns new entrants

Benue State University on Wednesday matriculated 6 ,400 students, warning the new entrants not to fall below the institution’s minimum standards .

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Moses Kembe , said at the institution’s 25 th matriculation ceremony in Makurdi that the participating students were the successful ones among the 14 , 623 candidates that applied for admission .

Kembe said that the students were matriculated into nine faculties and the College of Health Sciences .

He told the new students to stay away from vices capable of endangering their educational pursuit in the school.

“The orientation exercise has availed you of the dos and don ’ ts of the University , including the most prevalent vices on campus like examination malpractice , cultism , improper dressing, drug abuse , homosexuality , lesbianism , alcoholism , prostitution , romantic engagement between students and staff.

“Let me, therefore , warn here that any of you who falls below our minimum standards will be traced and flushed out .

”Therefore , remain committed to academic excellence and study hard to make a success of your stay here in the University ,” he said.

The vice chancellor said the university had resolved to provide a conducive environment for learning and ensure international standards for teaching and research .

He said that all needed facilities were already in place , including a functional ICT infrastructure.

Kembe said the direct sale of handouts and books by lecturers in the institution was not allowed and urged students to report any lecturer found engaging in the act .

He urged the students to patronise the University Ultra Modern Library and Bookshop.

The vice chancellor commended stakeholders of the university , especially the parents , guardians and relations , for their sustained support in the face of the serious challenge of funding and expansion of infrastructure .

He announced the appointment of Prof. Godwin Achinge , Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration and Prof. Edward Omudu, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics .
