With enthusiasm and profound sympathy for Ondo State civil servants I wrote to the leaderships of Ondo State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Joint Negotiation Council (JNC), for their negligence of the welfare of the entire civil servants in the State.
How on earth the State labour leaders are dancing round the outgoing government aftermath knowing the truth with present situation, it is clear to the unions that the present government which her tenure will terminates by 24th of February, 2017, is not prepared to accede to the payment of the seven (7) months backlogs of outstanding salary.
Apart from the outgoing government's unwillingness to fulfill its promises when the going was good during the supportive measure of the entire workforce of Ondo State for the re-election of Mr Governor for the second term in 2012, there is no indication that it is ever ready to substantially negotiate, let alone reaching an agreement.
I implore the leaderships of the aforementioned labour unions to deplore the callous attitude of Ondo State outgoing administration to the suffering of the entire workers of Ondo state.
Pa (Comrade) Michael lmoudu, of blessed memory, was at the core of the mechanism which nurtured and sustained unionism in Nigeria. He sometimes said, 'I will speak for you.' The important tools needed to wrest a square deal from the employers, for all he wanted was to secure a fair deal for both employers and employees . But now in Ondo State unionism reverse is the case as the employer involves in a reckless spending while the employees is suffering as they can no longer put food on their table, they can no longer pay their children school fees, they can no longer pay their house rent and many more to count.
Our labour leaders can no longer speak for their followers only to speak for themselves.
My candid opinion is that there is still enough time to act before the incoming government comes on board. Peace.
