Kano police arrest 18 suspects over violent protest

Nigerian-police-Kano State Police Command on Friday
confirmed the arrest of 18 suspects who have
allegedly destroyed the houses of two law
makers from Kano, Senator Kabiru Gaya and
Honourable Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya.

Both lawmakers represent Gaya constituency at
the Senate and the House of Representatives
respectively.

The Command, however, noted that an attempt
by the irate youths to also attack the Yalokuka

of security operatives at the scene.

Reacting to the development, the State Police
Command Public Relations officer, DSP Magaji
Musa Majiya, explained that the entire building
of Senator Kabiru Gaya was not set ablaze as
widely reported.

Rather, he disclosed that the protesters partially
razed an area housing the power generator
within the building complex,

Also, the protesters set ablaze the campaign
office and poultry farm belonging to the House
of Representatives member from the area,
Alhaji Abdullahi Mahamud.

However, Majiya, disclosed that normalcy has
been restored to the affected part of the town,
pointing out that the arrested suspects have
since been transferred to the State Criminal
Investigation Department for further
investigation.
